2026 Winter Olympics – Milano Cortina, Italy
The biggest figure skating event every 4 years is the Winter Olympics. Figure skating first took place at the 1908 Summer Olympics and since 1924 it has been part of the Winter Olympics. As with the Summer Olympics, Australia has been well represented over the years, including a number of figure skaters who have the honor to call themselves Olympians.
Four more skaters representing Australia have now been added to the list of skaters who fulfilled their dreams of competing at the Olympics. Their performances showed those places were well earned through their hard work and results at the qualification events in 2025.
Our first skaters, Holly Harris and Jason Chan, competed in the Ice Dance event. The theme was 90s music and they performed their Rhythm Dance to JoLo. Holly’s green and gold dress not only gave a nod to JoLo’s green Versace dress, but what better way to represent your country in our sporting colours. Their program was energetic, vibrant and exciting. They didn’t quite achieve their personal best score, but their score of 67.75 was certainly good enough to finish in 18th position.
Onto the Free Dance and it was here that they really showed how they have grown as not only skaters but as an ice dance couple. Their beautiful program to Clare de Lune was a reflection of those qualities and earned them a score of 108.64. It helped them place 17th in the Free Dance and overall they retained they 18th place at the end of the event.
For our Pair Skaters, Anatasiia Golubeva and Hektor Giotopoulos Moore, it had been a rough season. After earning their place at the Olympics at Worlds last year, the season was not an ideal lead up due to injury and waiting on citizenship for Anastasiia. However they took to the Olympic ice and showed the qualities that had made them Junior World Silver medalists. It was a clean program to Muse with maturity and expression that they have developed over the last couple of years and they were delighted with their performance, earning a season’s best score of 60.69. Unfortunately it was not enough to move through to the Free Skate. However going by their post program interview they were very happy skaters and were relishing the Olympics experience. They are now Olympians and can work towards the future.
Ice Skating Australia congratulate Holly, Jason, Anastasiia and Hektor on representing Australia, not only with excellent skating but also demonstrating fantastic sportsmanship. Their next event will be the World Championships to be held in Prague, Czechia from 24th to 29th March.
As well as our skaters, congratulations to four of our Australian officials who had the honor of being part of the panels for the figure skating events. Susan Lynch (Technical Controller), Clarence Ong (Technical Specialist), Tricia Moritz (Judge) and Leah Bates (Judge) can now add the Olympics to their list of events they have officiated at.
